Dear friends,
Today, as Australia pauses for the National Day of Mourning following the tragic events at Bondi last month, we remember the 15 innocent lives taken and the loved ones who now carry a deep and lasting ache.
We also honour the courage of first responders and community members who acted with selfless bravery.
Let us pray for healing where trauma remains, comfort where grief overwhelms and peace where fear lingers.
The national theme, ‘Light will win, a gathering of unity and remembrance’, reminds us that hope still rises, even in dark and difficult days.
I also want to acknowledge the extraordinary service, compassion and quiet strength shown by Salvation Army personnel who have supported those impacted – whether through chaplaincy, pastoral care, practical assistance, or simply sitting beside someone in their pain. Thank you for being a faithful and gentle presence of Christ; your ministry reflects the heart of who we are and bears witness to the truth that light indeed will win.
If you are in the area, the Bondi Junction Salvos Store will be holding a reflective service at 11am today, and you are welcome to attend.
I encourage you to take time on the National Day of Mourning for reflection and prayer.
Hold one another close, and may the light of Christ guide our steps as we continue to serve a hurting world with grace.
With gratitude,

Commissioner Miriam Gluyas Territorial Commander Australia Territory
