Playford Salvos welcomes three dedicated new soldiers

The Playford Salvos in South Australia recently welcomed three new soldiers into the corps.
Rosalie, Bev and Lena were enrolled on 13 September during the Sunday service, with all three having demonstrated a significant commitment to the work of The Salvation Army.
Playford Corps Officer Lieutenant Leeanne Pattison said the trio were marked by their dedication to the corps and the Salvos Store attached.
With Rosalie having previously enrolled at the Port Adelaide/Semaphore Corps, Lena had already been involved in the Playford Salvos through being volunteer shop manager at the Salvos Store. Bev has also become an established volunteer, who Leeanne said “gets in and does what she can”.
“I think in them wanting to become soldiers is [the desire] to do more for God,” Leeanne said.
“It wasn’t an instant decision for Bev and Lena, particularly, Rosalie already had made that decision before doing the classes, but with Bev and Lena, they just wanted to sort of pray about it and think about it and see what this meant for them with going forward. So, they decided that the next step in their faith journey was to become soldiers.”

Leeanne said Rosalie was a “really great witness” to residents in the aged care home where she resides, who often talked to others about what Jesus had done for her.
She said Bev and Lena were great in ministry, and able to take over the weekly Bible study at the corps whenever Leeanne was unable to attend. She said Lena was present four days a week as a store volunteer, but was always willing to take on more, as was Bev.
“[They are] just always wanting to be involved, wanting to do more … always coming to me going, what can we do? Like, where can we serve? What can we do for the community?
“They’re just excited to go forward and considering they’re in their wiser years … they’re both older, but they’re not stopping.”
