With flood clean-up beginning in Bundaberg following last week’s inundation of homes and businesses in the region, The Salvation Army is continuing to provide care and support to those impacted.

The Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES) was originally set to be activated in the Bundaberg Recovery Hub from 13 to 26 March, but the centre has been closed, and the SAES team has transitioned to its recovery phase.

In the Northern Territory, evacuation centres in Katherine have been closed, but in Darwin two remain open, with about 200 community members sheltering in each one.

SAES personnel from three different states have been deployed to assist, with five volunteers from NSW being sent to assist this week.

Over the next couple of days, more heavy rain and a possible cyclone is expected, so SAES teams are on alert.
