The Student Council from Gilmore College in Western Australia has launched an initiative to support the work of Kwinana Salvos at Christmas time.
The Community Social Responsibility Initiative is an opportunity for the school to give back to their community and make a difference.
Student Councillors met with Kwinana Corps Officer Major Scott Ellery and Ministry Assistant Chantal Tait to learn more about The Salvation Army’s work assisting local families.
Each year, the Salvos support those facing difficulties at Christmas. There is a significant need for support, with people struggling to afford food, gifts and housing.
The Salvos offer food hampers, gift vouchers, and meals, and provide emergency relief throughout the year. Kwinana Salvos will be supporting approximately 200 local families with food hampers and toys this year.
The Community Social Responsibility Initiative will help create and deliver this year’s Christmas hampers, aiming to collect 1000 non-perishable food items. Donations can include tinned foods such as fruit, vegetables, soups, meats or fish (ring-pull tins preferred), meal bases such as pasta sauces, rice meals, curry and stir-fry sauces, meal kits, and Christmas items such as puddings, mince pies, biscuits, chocolates and custard.
The Christmas Appeal also welcomes other essentials, such as cereals, spreads, tea, coffee, long-life milk and baby food.
All donated items must be new, unused, and have long expiry dates.
Donations are welcome at the school’s collection boxes in Student Services and at the college’s administration office until Friday 5 December 2025.
