Through The Salvation Army’s international emergency response network, funds have already been provided to support relief efforts in Nepal, where local teams are preparing to distribute food, blankets, emergency lights, soap and other essential supplies as access to affected areas improves.
The Salvation Army Australia Territory is supporting this international response to the devastating flash floods that struck Nepal’s Rasuwa District on 26 August, causing widespread destruction and significant loss of life. Salvation Army personnel across Australia have also been encouraged to pray for affected communities and those involved in rescue and recovery efforts.
General Lyndon Buckingham has called on Salvationists around the world to stand with those affected.
“With deep sorrow, The Salvation Army around the world stands in solidarity with the people of Nepal and Tibet (China). We are praying for the families of those who have died and for the many thousands who have lost their homes and livelihoods.”
